Preparing for Registration - lists of competitors for checking, CDs, health, sail & foil check, bag label ... sign-on sheet for spectator boat, and tags for random post-race prize draws.
Tally the Welcome BBQ tickets - complicated by odd requests :-(
Now the $6m question - - - will folk remember what they have said they will do?
One sponsor has not responded - I will have to draw a line through their name on the sipporter list we have had printed :-(
D'oh - just realise - I haven't done the Division listing yet :-(

Sunday night !
Three days last week in clinic - gr8 way to end first month there.
SLOWLY gathering items for the regatta - helps when folk let me know they have items ready for pickup or handed over to another person to bring to Brisbane
Saturday - fickle wind, not much gained. Leave 1537 at RQ ready for the event.
Sunday - 1724 washed down and sorted; big TY to Ian for his help.

One perpetual to track down - but not losing sleep over it.
Pick up some bags for competitor packs this afternoon.
Antenatal clinic - lots that I am enjoying - still more to learn - never ever thought I would be ordering path!
In the business of this summer semester and Nats preparation - still time to enjoy some music

Spiral on water cell
Thinking much about my Spiral sailing in 2013. Brought me to finding this clip from Mungindi on the water cell.

Busy times.
Friday - received uni results, all good and on track, just cannot let go of the momentum now, that will be a challenge.
Saturday - day trip to RQYS, lovely day on Waterloo Bay.
Sunday - uni assessment item #1 finalised; downstairs neighbour goes to hospital again (he has emphysema and is schizo)
Monday - Sabre organisation; all the little bits that cannot be done till close to the date - like - laminate the trolley numbers; tidy up some of the flat (sorting last semester materials so they aren't cluttering the place)
Today - back into uni online study, I have a 40% assessment item due the week of 7 January and a 5% assessment due the week after, realistically, I won't get much done over the regatta.
Spiral Nationals NOR and registration form now online - I need two more Spiral race days before 26 January. Looking forward to a road trip and RnR at the end of January before Semester 1/2013 starts up.
The next week is going to just fly by.

Trying to understand potential regatta supprters - the ones who are ignoring my calls and emails :-(
Queensland just doesn't attract as much attention - don't they know there are folk from every state watching the event? It's not just the competitors - it's the event overall.
I can only conclude I have no marketing skills - couldn't sell a raffle ticket to my mother - actually I wouldn't try - I would just buy it for her :-)
Replaying Hey,little girl ... and having a celebratory homestyle, home prepared coffee - Seester 1 midi results are up - I am overall happy - the challenge is to keep up the pace, improve a little, and not drop off on the wave I have created. Every shift is a job interview now.
Nationals organising - I am now into scope management - I have to say NO to anything additional from here in, and avoid any new complications. Scope crreep can be a killler.
Shame about the guy that slipped on the CYC ramp last weekend. Another bloke is awaiting surgery.
I wonder if RQ has a defibrilator? I ought find out!
This weekend I will do some work on 1724 - get her race ready.
PLUS - 40 days and I too will be on the road
Sue and the fleet (but which is which?),
As Tine Goes By
Hey, little girl
Here's lookin' at you
Play it again

Wore my Battle for Waterloo t-shirt yesterday :-) and relaxed after the weekend sailing.
Embarrassing moment Sunday night - fell asleep using my laptop in bed.
Today - I have discovered I must be truly amazing - since I managed to cover in two hours what the lecturer took four hours to cover. Well there is another explanation - I know half as much as the lecturer? I talk twice as fast? Um - what other explanation could there be?
Hopefully the travellers take heed of my HIV message.
Tomorrow a trip to Brisbane for my First Aid update ... just a day trip unless I get an invitation I cannot resist.

Reviewed Nationals registration process with organising team whilst at DPSS Battle for Waterloo.
Starting to realise just how disappointed I am really with the overall turnout expecetd - there wer 39 entrants at 2006 Qld hosted Nationals, so yes, an increase, but there were 12 Qld'ers in 2006 and I think 15 this year - to me - that is failure on my part.
But I do not know what I could have done differently.
Enjoyed the two races - nice breeze - and here is some footage as promised
Forecast for today looks similar - better make tracks and het down to the point :-)

Friday ... I am enjoying antenatal clinic, and as a bonus, it isn't open on the weekend - so I can sail Saturday AND Sunday - just as well because it's the Battle for Waterloo at DPSS.
The BOM forecast looks perfect!
Sailing Instructions for Sabre Nationals posted today on the RQYS event microsite - project on schedule :-)
My plan for the weekend:
Fri night: work like a dog on uni assignments
Sat: drive to Brisbane, sail DPSS regatta, sleep over at daughter's
Sun: sail DPSS regatta, drive back to Nambour
Will try and capture some sailing footage this weekend.
Have a good one, S

Getting ready for a day in antenatal clinic at NGH.
This afternoon will put finishing touches to HIV presentation for undergraduate RNs at Uni of Sunshine Coast.
Made inroads yesterday into week 2 of Infant Care subject - just needing to clarify the blogging parts of the subject.
Shame the Sail Melbourne folk lost a day yesterday - the downside of travelling a long way for an event that relies on the weather hey? Starting to wish I had a crystal ball for the Sabre Nats!
Mentally preparing for a month of 24/7 activity.

Where I live now
I do not live IN the Big Pineapple - but I do live in Nambour, the home of the Big Pineapple.
Moved here July 2012 after a year in SW Qld (St George and Mungindi). This is the closest I have lived to a BIG icon. I went inside recently - it is made of fibreglass.
So here in Nambour, I live about 600m from the Nambour General Hospital, which is where I work. Parking is at a premium, an influence on finding a flat so close, so I walk to/from work which is a part of the day I do enjoy - regardless of the time my shift starts or ends.
I commute to Brisbane on as many weekends as I can to sail at Royal Qld Yacht Squadron (Saturday) and Darling Point Sailing Squadron (Sunday). This is a 250km round trip - but it's worth it, and much closer than last year when I had a 1060km round trip for sailing in Brisbane, which I didn't do too often.
The plan at present for me is to finish my midwifery July 2013. Where I go after that - who knows? - the ideal scenario would be a graduate midwife position somewhere.
Hope to sail the Sabre on the Maroochy River this Thursday afternoon, and also looking forward to sailing Battle for Waterloo at the weekend (posted my entry this afternoon).

Waterloo Bay at its best
Hi, had an excellent afternoon on Waterloo Bay!
Fanged around on some reaches for about an hour, then raced with DPSS.
Steady 18-20k at Inner Beacon.
Here I am in the marina ..
No shots on the bay - I had the camera on the wrong mode :-(
Which means I cannot show you the rooster tail I had on my rudder blade.
Must have been travelling fast - the venturi wouldn't stay open!
Driving home I played some of my Brisbane to Hobart CD compilation - which led me to thinking not many folk know where I live or what I do!! Mystery Girl :-)
I have a feeling blogging the lead up to the Nationals might be fun - and very different to my trip to Hobart nationals blog.

2 Dec, coffee at RQYS
Hello from RQYS,
Sitting in the bar
watching folk have breakfast, very relaxing, and enjoying my coffee as I write
to you. Oh – here’s a picture of me at the Boardwalk CafĂ© J
We had a big day on Waterloo Bay yesterday, check out the
Inner Beacon readings at BOM. I’m expecting more of the same today for a race
at DPSS. http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/observations/brisbane.shtml
A few folk have asked
about getting from the RQYS rigging lawns to the sailing area. We sail out
through the marina (all yachts are berthed, not on swings). After the second channel marker, turn right J,
toward King Island. Yes you can see King Island in the pic below.
These bay shots were
taken this morning, from the mouth
of the marina channel.
Summer has kicked in, so you need to be packing sunscreen,
rashies, sunnies and hats. Don’t forget water bottle and the boat J
There are 55 entrants (check the RQYS Sabre Nationals
microsite) for the list. This is also the link to access Sailing Instructions
(coming VERY soon, and results in due course). Event microsite link: http://www.rqys.com.au/index.php/2013-sabre-australian-championship/
Competitors, your welcome pack will have a booklet of local
information. I will also be emailing you mid-December with an informal how-to
for the event, like getting boom-gate access and the local shops.
I’m off to rig As Time
Goes By for same fun on the bay.
See you soon,
Susan and the Qld Nationals organising team
